Métamorphoses: Nocturno

Video (HD)

Music: To-Bork+Ram

2009

Out of dense swarm of static, emerges a vision of city in the night. Urban scenery shapen by penumbra – nuanced abscence of focal confines – alternates with stretches of accentuated contrast, where gushing electrical lighting pierces through the dark, resonating in its many trajectories. Night turns to dawn and fading/dwindling glimmer of street lamps overlaps with faint, still hibernated sunlight; this dissolve of vague, blurred states, envelopes the city in a torpid grey mist.

At its seams, this drowsy overcast erupts with stern constancy of static, dragging the perceivable backwards, beyond the dark and past the oniric realm, to an unconscious state of charged self-attenuation.

Barely outlined (nocturnal) cityscape, gets drawn by the tenacious pull of static that tends to absorb and pulverise the information gathered/recounted by the light beam on its path, dissolving it into its nebulous homogeneity, asphyxiating and ubiquitous.

This work was realised in collaboration with italian musician To-Bork+Ram for the exhibition “Métamorphoses – Visions contemporaines”. The video footage is a silhouette, a travelogue of a night and dawn in Berlin, in Spring of 2009.
